perhaps if one cushion gets damaged or is wrong from the mfg., it is easier to send away, to get repaired. Also the bolts of fabric can be just a little off color, and doing a long cushion, the color mat change marginally.
Also from working in a furniture store, many, many years ago, one long cushion will eventually twist.
