How many years can you go back to claim something for income tax ?

Are you talking about going back and adjusting past year returns to i:nclude a credit/deduction? Or are you talking about multiple year amounts i:ncluded on 2018 tax return? If so it depends on the credit. For example unclaimed donations can be 5 years but medical or children fitness etc is only 12 month period.

How is cable being claimed, like as what type of expense?

no its not but like coop the westman comm in Brandon sends out dividend or share pages each year that you are required to claim when filing your taxes. they also are sent to the cra so chances are the poster has already claimed them if done at a tax office that collects their info from the cra. if not adjustments for the amount going back 10 years needs to be done.

The dividends are generally not taxable. So the little bit of tax that was withheld is refundable. Double check that CRA hasn’t already refunded it to you. If they haven’t you can go back 3 years and claim wi a T1 adjustment

You can change a return from up to 10 years ago.  
The easiest way would be to register an online "My Account" with the CRA. Once registered you can do numerous things, including setting up direct deposit for government cheques, checking contribution room for RRSPs and TFSA, AND making changes to past filed income taxes by simply changing the info on the specific line on each tax return.  
 
In the case of Westman Cable (a cooperative) if the service was for personal use, you can claim the income tax they paid on you behalf.
