So ive been at my current job for 7 years now, and I started my transition last year. My question is how people feel about that. My boss says he is fine with it, but feels it’s gonna hurt the business so he’s hinting about me leaving

Wow, I can not imagine what kind of feeling that must be like. I sincerely hope it's just a misinterpretation.  
 
I think a good place for you to start is fully knowing your rights as an employee in the province and country. Sadly, these may become a necessity for you to understand.  
 
More than anything, you need to do what is best for you. Living every day as someone you aren't, that's a decision for you to make. Wherever you're going to find the most happiness in life. Frankly, your boss shouldn't even be part of the equation, but I understand why he would be.

Your boss is not legally allowed to discriminate based on sex, but there isn’t anything to stop him making your job difficult for you to push you out...  
Most people don’t quit a job, they quit a boss. If your boss isn’t supportive, find one that is. Easier said than done though.

There is nothing in the original post that implies that they have left anything out of the story and it shouldn't be difficult for you to appreciate how this type of major life change could make someone feel very uncomfortable and vulnerable.  
 
Please don't imply this person has done something wrong with absolutely nothing to base this on.  
 
The trans community is, unfortunately, vulnerable and that is for all sorts of reason ranging from blatant bigotry to unconscious bias and beyond. The fact that their employer thinks that an employee actualizing their gender would be hurtful to their business is transphobic.

Congratulations on your journey and becoming a better version of yourself.  
 
If there are any foreseeable problems as stated by your employer, I would strongly suggest he educate himself!  
 
The world is changing and making great strides but discrimination in the workplace is wrong any way you look at it. I would document/record every conversation! Make him accountable!

It’s cool the boss is ok with it but he might be concerned on how the customers may feel and if he might lose customers for it.  
Yes it’s accepted now BUT not by everybody.  
Think it depends on the work place.

I would put forward that any customer that is going to pick and choose the businesses they frequent based on the gender identity of the people working there is not a customer worth having. No different than discriminating against a person for any other reason. We don't want that business, sorry.  
 
Hopefully boss knows that being a supportive ally and advocate, and making their business a trans-friendly, welcoming and safe environment is only going to INCREASE the number of customers the business has.  
 
Boss should be celebrating the diversity of their staff and saying good riddance to any customer that would be unwilling to shop in a store that doesn't discriminate in their staffing practices. Not to mention, those people are few and far between. Most people (even those that are biased) don't care who is helping them, they just want good service.

You have dropped a bomb shell on your boss. Give him a chance to do some research and come to terms with your announcement. Your boss may be open minded - which it appears he is - but remember you have opened him up to a real nightmare. He is going to have to deal with some of your co-workers who may refuse to work with you in addition to dealing with customers who may find your situation offensive. This is no easy task for a boss so give him some leadway before being over critical.
