This is a really unfortunate post.
I would put forward that any customer that is going to pick and choose the businesses they frequent based on the gender identity of the people working there is not a customer worth having. No different than discriminating against a person for any other reason. We don't want that business, sorry.
Hopefully boss knows that being a supportive ally and advocate, and making their business a trans-friendly, welcoming and safe environment is only going to INCREASE the number of customers the business has.
Boss should be celebrating the diversity of their staff and saying good riddance to any customer that would be unwilling to shop in a store that doesn't discriminate in their staffing practices. Not to mention, those people are few and far between. Most people (even those that are biased) don't care who is helping them, they just want good service.
