Yea or Nay. What say you?

146 new cases of covid today and increasing numbers of deaths I think that Halloween outside the home should be cancelled.

Nope. We can’t have it all this year, and personally I’d rather skip something pointless like Halloween in hopes of keeping numbers down and being able to celebrate Christmas.  
I see a lot of parents saying it’s not fair to the kids to make them miss out, etc. but I think this is just a great opportunity to teach our kids that we can’t get everything we want in life. No ones lives will be ruined if there is no trick or treating. There are lots of other fun things that can be done in the safety of your own home to make Halloween fun for the kids this year.

Honestly, my kids no matter their age never need as much candy as they get. Why not take this opportunity and do something different!?

Our kids are excited to stay at home and switch it up. They get way too much candy as it is and we like to use these opportunities to teach them that sometimes we have to be able to roll with what life throws at you and make the best of it. Thankfully they are great kids and they actually seemed pretty happy about it. We are going to do a flashlight candy hunt around the house for them and a movie with treats.

This year in our house. Kids won’t be going out nor will we be handing out candy, not worth the risk of exposure to some as that could be a nightmare for contact tracing.  
 
Will take this to make it a fun family day, watch some Halloween movies etc.

No Halloween shouldn't be cancelled!! Our covid numbers in Brandon are good, if this was Winnipeg my opinion might be different. If we can go to garage sales all summer and farmers markets and corn on the cob trucks and craft sales (like the one that was outdoors at the Keystone last weekend) and fall fairs like they're having at the Keystone this weekend, then we can surely figure out how to do Halloween safely for the littles. Wear masks, use tongs, etc ...I think kids and adults both understand the concept of social distancing by now. I have more of a problem with things like AAA hockey that is starting soon that brings Wpg teams here. Staying in our hotels, eating in our restaurants, shopping at our stores... the last thing we need are the Wpg cases migrating here. And yes, I didn't like it when they treated Brandon people like crap when our numbers were high, but in all reality Winnipeg numbers are way worse then ours ever were and still going through the roof even after being in orange for two weeks.

......but I agree with those who are opting for a reduced contact Hallowe’en.  
 
While I think it a wonderful holiday I think for the sake of prudence we will not distribute treats this year. I think the discussion needs to start now for Xmas as well. While also in my top three holidays I believe we will opt to do most, if not all of our visiting virtually.  
 
To me, I think we need to be looking towards salvaging next year and not worry about the remaining holidays this year.  
 
Just think, if we had bite the bullet and had everyone stay home for two or three weeks when all this started we would be done. Instead we are likely to be faced with continued outbreaks, likely due to folks who, with no ill intent, decide they have had enough and interact with others outside their “bubble”  
 
Anyway, that’s a long way to say “Nay”

Restrictions should be province wide before the virus gets worse again. People have become lax and its going to bite us.

Canada's top public doctor says there's no need to cancel Halloween this year — as long as trick-or-treaters respect the new realities of the pandemic.  
 
"I think finding that balance of trying to provide some degree of normality, even though it is actually different from any other year, most public health leaders think that that is actually important," Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam told a briefing in Ottawa this morning.

My vote is to cancel it like every other event was all summer. I know we usually get around 80 kids coming to the door and if even one was sick it could just multiply before you know it. Not worth the risk. The lights at my house will be off.

Not this year. We will not be handing out treats from our home this year. Safety first.

We have had 100-120 kids past few years which is larger than what is allowed in a school cohort. Not wanting to come into contact with that many (though imagine numbers will be greatly down this year). My kids are in highschool so these kids will not be kids we normally would be exposed to.  
 
I am contemplating putting some treats side with a sign "take one) and see what happens, at least we would have no contact that way.

Think of all the money that would be saved by homeowners on 9th street south. It gets so crowded down the street you cannot move.

Dr. TAM also told Canadians repeatedly at the start of this that they didn't need to wear masks as it was not an airborne virus.

No treats this year.

My kids are grown now, so they don’t go trick or treating. But we are all decorated up, candy is bought and pkgs sanitized. Ready to be prepacked in bags, with washed cleaned hands next week, to be ready for the 31st, we’ve worked out a system so no one has to use stairs, railings, doorbells, etc. 6ft distance while wearing masks. We are a yay for giving out treats!

Saw this weekend these candy chutes people are installing for halloween . Think I might build one of these seeing that we are planning to hand out candy.

Will be handing out candy! Mask, sanitizer, tongs and box of candy that will not be opened till the first kid comes to the door!  
 
If we can have farmers markets and crafts sales and sports games and such things, then we can definitely have Halloween!

We are canceling trick or treating but NO we are not canceling Halloween.  
 
I have our boxes or treats bought already and will hide them and have a candy hunt. Will carve pumpkins and get takeout. Watch scary movies.  
 
There is always next year. Better to be safe than sorry

Going to have to "ghost Halloween" this year. A few over excited kids, a few neglecting home owners and a few clueless parents is a recipe for disaster. My kids are just starting their heavily restricted sports programs and we finally got into a groove with the school routine. I don't want a chance to have it all buggered up because of a few individuals that we might cross paths on just a single night. How many doorbells will get touched, how many will improperly handle the candy and how many will cluster around a doorway? Too many unknown variables. Maybe some will have their candy bagged & sanitized and have a "treat chute" set up, but the behavior of the kids (even when they are supervised) is too unpredictable. I can't go back to a code orange situation, let alone a code red lockdown, a month and a half before Christmas. It's not worth the risk of one day to drastically affect the youth athletic programs, or the school year and the entire Holliday Season for a Mars bar.  
 
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

This is a neat idea and what I would do if I lived in town-very cool! It is a win-win.
