I have a portable air conditioner that I want to use on a crank out window. The window kit that comes with it does not work on a crank window  
 
There are options on Amazon that I have issues with. You cannot close the window without pulling it off so that is a security issue for me. Other issues with this is poor reviews, I do not want to waste my money.  
 
A friend got a plexi glass insert for the window. A hole was cut in the plexi glass and the hose to the was attached so the hot air could be vented out side. The window cpuld still ne closed and locked. The problem I have with this is the cost. It cost over $100 last year  
Does anyone have another suggestion that would be secure and have a reasonable price? I am a senior on a fixed income. Any help or recomendations would be appreciated. Thank you

Find a scrap of plywood that will fit into the window opening, and cut the round hole into that for the exhaust duct. You can find scraps of plywood at a lot of places, such as back of Home Depot. construction site dumpsters, or even the dump. It doesn't take much and only need basic tools,

We use cardboard and a LOT of duct tape. I would gladly pay $100 to avoid all the wasted time and frustration! LOL! Were you not able to save the plexi glass and re-use it?

Just wondering is you could get one of those plastic window seal packages used to keep drafts out. It should be able to be put on and a hole cut to allow for the vent, as well as allowing the window to open and close, a person could also use a heavier grade of plastic vapour barrier.

I use cor-plastic in the past and make it fit in the front groove with metal clips I made. After I was able to crank the window open or closed as needed.
