Lets be realistic... if you were offered a monthly cheque and in turn didn't have to work to make a living, would you take it??
What about that couple in the UK that have upwards of 10 kids and neither the husband or wife work because the money they receive from the government amounts to more than a paycheck would... they're well aware they're abusing the system but it works for them so they make the most of it.
And why do you think people buy lottery tickets? There's a very slim chance you'll actually win, but the concept of never having to work again sparks intrigue. Unfortunately most people have to work one, two or even three jobs to get by in today's society.
I don't agree with what our ancestors did, pushing the First Nations people into that type of lifestyle - but it's become a way of life for most of them and, for the most part, many of them know no other alternative.
I'm afraid our ancestors never expected it to turn out the way it has. This situation has been going on so long now that it's hard to say if change will ever be on the horizon. By trying to impose our views on the First Nations people, we're really no better than our great great grandparents pushing them away when they didn't accept their way of life. We can't FORCE them to see the other side, they have to WANT to - and that's something we'll have to hope for.
