Canad Inn Wins Tax Appeal
7/26/2007 at 2:10 PM
Brandon's Canad Inn will get a 260 thousand dollar tax rebate after winning its tax appeal.
The Municipal Board ruled the hotel paid too much and cut the tax bill by 20 percent going back to when the it was built in 2005.
City treasurer Grant McMillan says the city will pay 160 thousand and the Keystone Center will pay 100 thousand.
The city gives the municipal portion of the tax collected to the Keystone.
President Tim Silverside says the loss of tax revenue will make it more difficult to become self-sustaining and says the decision shouldn't hurt relations with the hotel.
The city will pay its share of the rebate from a reserve fund.
My question is, where is all the money promised to the Keystone center by the Hotel if they allowed the Hotel to take over most of the entertainment operations and all of the front Parking Lots?
