I want some ideas for destinations for a winter trip. I want somewhere warm but i want it to be in the states. Please give some ideas and what fun stuff there is to do there.

We loved San Diego. Zoo, Safari Park, USS Midway aircraft carrier, beaches, SeaWorld, Oldtown, Coronado hotel/beach, etc.  
 
We have also done an "everything but Disney" vacation to Orlando area. (or do the coast). We really enjoyed Kennedy Space Station, Blue Springs state park (manatees), airboat ride, Gatorland, dinner comedy shows, orange farm tour etc.

New York is a beautiful place to visit.  

Funny, same as Bluebell, I was going to say San Diego, too! Lots to do, great weather (always mid-20s), beaches, food, great parks (Balboa Park is really cool). I could go on and on.

Has anyone done the florida keys/Miami? thinking about that this year. want to snorkel, eat good food, relax and have some nearby places for the young adults to go to in evenings.

Is this adult only or family?

It will just be me and my husband, early 30's. We've done Vegas already but would like to go somewhere else but I'm thinking a similar price to a Vegas trip.  
 
I want southern states though, need some warmth!  
 
We like to do some sight seeing and historical stuff, zoo  
 
I would love to go to Hawaii but that's not in our budget at the moment.

Not cheap but comparable to Vegas IF you can find some decent hotel and airfares. If you can swing it I highly recommend staying in the French Quarter for your first time, just for the experience and you'll spend most of your time there anyway.  
 
We go every year, one of our favorite getaways and you can find deals but flights can be pricey do if your dates are flexible all the better. Look for a b and b in the quarter to save a few, you want location more than amenities anyway!  
 
And avoid Mardi Gras at all costs, for your first time anyway.  
 
Vegas is fun but tacky. NOLA has the fun with added history and cultural, with the nightlife of Vegas imo.

Great city, unique and has a free-spirit vibe to it. Lots to see and do and the food is great. Not the hottest place but there won't be any snow, lol. Just google things to do in San Francisco, they're all good.

We did Ft Lauderdale and Naples. Both are really nice but definitely on the more expensive side. I would say Ft L / Miami would have more to do. Orlando has lots that is non disney to do too.

If you have any interest at all in the music industry, Nashville is a great place to go. Lots to do with sightseeing, beautiful scenery and landscape in the outlying areas (smaller towns and cities) and just being in Nashville during the day or night is an experience that would be so much fun for a couple. There's live music everywhere all day long so you can go into one place for a drink and listen awhile then move on to somewhere else. There is also the Grand Old Opry and shows there every night. I found it to be very affordable but we stayed on the outskirts of town - we rented a house in a beautiful area about 20 minutes away and drove into the city for fun. If you want to drink or party a bit I'd suggest staying a cab ride away from downtown.  
 
There is SO much to see in the surrounding areas, even if you loathe country music you could have a wonderful time there.
