That's wonderful that you are working while collecting dis benefits - even if its part time, you are trying and that's what's important. You probably have a few more dollars working and get out of the house to see people - you should feel good about yourself.

A little off topic but....I thought I'd have a few extra dollars for my son and I also, but I am only allowed to earn $200/month before they start deducting dollar for dollar off my benefit cheque. The extra pays a bill....maybe, or buys some groceries, but some months my benefit cheque is only $120 for the month and its split into 2 cheques.... 1 $60 at the first of the month and a 2nd cheque around the 10th-15th of the month for another $60. The amounts change monthly depending on how much income is earned, so in the end, not much extra money to be had! And being sick a lot and in and out of the hospital frequently, i sometimes don't earn any "extra" imcome...But I do help others when I can, and not nessessarily with money...I will cook for people also, and run them on errands if they don't have a vehicle and can't afford a taxi...and I also find I've been helped when in need also...I believe in karma..! If you have direct deposit the benefits were deposited Dec 22. They have always made the Dec benefits available about a week before the regular date to offset the holiday schedule. You have to then remember that the next benefit will not arrive until the end of January. It is hard to stretch the dollars and not fair that those who try to work a little get penalized for doing so.  
It is amazing how being able to work helps with the self-esteem for those who are struggling with health issues. So before you spout off about get off you duffs and work, try putting yourself in that person's life situation. Would you trade with them?

If you are on EIA Disability, you can also volunteer and earn an extra $100 per month that isn't included in the $200 you can earn per month.

Direct deposite disability cheques were not out on the 22nd...  
I think it was just CPP that was out on the 22..  
I'm on social assistance disability and I have not recieved mine in direct yet ..  
Which is a bummer because I wanted to get stocking stuff for my 2 children..

I didn't want this discussion to go this way - anyone who shows the intiative to work while on EIA deserves some good words.  
 
You should talk with your counsellor - when a person is employed and on EIA, the first $200 does not affect benefits and the rest is deducted at 70%. So if you make $1000 on the job, you keep $200 plus 30% of the remaining $800 - so you keep $200 plus $240 - $440 more than if you didn't work. There are additional benefits issued if you have expenses related to your employment. Please ask about how your benefits are calculated and what additional benefits may be available.
