I still use "slower than molasses in January" when my son is going soooo slowly up our lane. My parents used that one on us all the time.

I grew up in Alberta and we had a chesterfield. Though, now that I think about it, my dad was from Sask. I always thought it was an odd sounding word but I don't know its origin.

It was always a chesterfield in our house. Our roots are from England so I believe that is likely where the word originates from.

Absolutely!
I was taught to say "you're welcome". Now it seems customary to say "no problem".
Oh well, at least it's an acknowledgement.

Don't know if it's just a Sask. thing....my one set of grandparents called it a chesterfield too, and were both born in and lived most of their lives in Manitoba.

bugger about my child being a little bugger.

Apparently not a nice thing to say around my Scottish great aunt she was very displeased when I used it while speaking to her one day.

because it is to do with the act of buggery which is not a nice sexual thing.

I still used it though I just never did in her company again

Is an English design of leather sofas. Very classical with deep set buttons and usually hand made. Calling all sofas a Chesterfield isn't accurate unless it's leather will deep set buttons. Probably a lot of people that emmigrated from England did bring their Chesterfields with them and the name stuck for all sofas.
