Do you think it is your responsibility to have to wake up your SO other for work or apps when they are in their late fifes ?

Nope.

Nope...he/she is a big boy/girl. Pretty sure your SO can learn how to set an alarm and get up when it goes off. Part of being an adult. Just stop doing it and when they are late for work or appointments they will learn. Not something you should have to teach an adult, though.

My boyfriend and I are in our 20's and I sure don't feel like I have to wake him up for work or any other obligations, nor would he be upset with me for not doing so.  
 
If I did notice he was sleeping too long and running late, I would.. just because it would be so out of the norm. lol

It shouldn't be your responsibility to make sure they are up in time. For me, if my wife had to work and if I happened to be awake when she would normally be getting up/ready then I would yes but otherwise no.

Is there a medical reason that makes it hard for them to wake up? For example, someone suffering fm depression can sometimes have a hard time getting up with an alarm clock (I had that experience). Or do they suffer from sleep apnea, again something that disrupts sleep and making it difficult to wake? Those reasons are different than someone who's too lazy to set an alarm or who routinely drinks enough that it makes him difficult to rouse.  
 
If this was an ongoing issue, I would look at the possible explanations, then make my decision from there.

ask my wife while I am on the road to call me to make sure I am up. I don't see anything wrong with it as there are times where my phone has died, power went out or hotel alarm didn't go off. Had she not called I would have missed my appointment/job and she wouldn't have to worry about waking me up for work as I would have been fired.  
I set 3-4 alarms on my phone and if I can figure out the hotel alarm clock (as many you now need a university degree to figure out), but I am also paranoid so I have my wonderful wife call and wake up to her beautiful voice! She is normally up very early (4am) but she has also woken up just to call me to make sure I am up, and just rolls over and goes back to sleep.  
If she asked me to make sure she's up I would do the same. I guess I look at it as we are a team and instead of looking at how much I may be being put out by her request I look at it as I would do anything to help her even if it means my schedule is messed up. But to each their own, if you don't like the thought of waking you partner up....don't!

If you have an understanding between you that it's something you're going to try to do, then great, but if another adult is putting responsibility on you to live their life for them that's not okay.  
 
We could all use a little help now and then, and maybe especially if you're not a morning person, and definitely if someone in my household isnt awake as usual and I notice of course I'm going to say something, but it shouldnt be something where your SO is getting annoyed with you for not being their caretaker.

Let's put it this way: if you are already arguing with your partner about this, telling him/her what a bunch of people of ebrandon think is hardly going to help work it out.

Guess it sort of depends what sort of relationship you have with your SO. Me, I'm an early riser, sometimes to the extreme, very seldom is there not a 5 in the hour slot on the clock when I get up, but my wife needs more sleep than me, and sometimes she just leaves it to my discretion when to wake her up. I consider alarms a pain, and if I was depending on one to wake me up I would likely just lay there waiting for it to go off, where as with people if I decide that it won't hurt for my wife to get an extra ten minutes of sleep, then she gets an extra ten minutes.  
After saying all that, she usually is up shortly after me, well usually just when the coffee is ready.

I too am up by 5:00 or shortly after.(darn farmgirl hours) My husband needs to be up by 5:30. I never have a problem, he gets up on his own, but if I had to wake him up everyday so he could get to work on time, that would be fine with me - he makes the big bucks, I want him up and working

It is not my RESPONSIBILITY, however it is something I do for him out of LOVE.

Don't worry, in a short time they will automatically rise at that age.  
The body changes and myself, my 5:30 am clock goes off, time that pee.  
Almost everyone I know of has the issue.

If I'm already up or need to be up, then why not. Mine works nights though and doesn't get home until after 9am so it's not an issue, I do wake up him when it's time to eat supper. If I'm out and about then he'll set an alarm. The only way I would see it being an issue is if he had to be up at (example: 5am and I didn't need to be up until 7am) because I have trouble falling back asleep once awake. Pick your battles...

as a team, if i was up, then sure no problem id wake my so up, but, also as a team if I cant handle waking the SO up then we would need to work something out that works for both of us like hey this thing called an alarm clock haha  
 
in reality I see no reason to wake up early to get an adult out of bed, ill make us both supper, i have to cook for me anyway, lunch clean or do other nice things for the family so its not all about me but it obviously bothers the op so as a nice SO s/he should figure out how to look after this need themself

Depends if he's easy to wake up or if you have to pull him out of bed. If he just asks you to make sure he's up, then that's fine and I'd be more than willing. But if he has a few alarm clicks and still doesn't wake up and you feel the responsibility is on you to get him up, then he's acting like a teenager and needs to grow up.
