HELP!! Im going to attempt to winterize my camper for the first time. Everyone keeps telling me its easy to do but Im not the most handy person there is. So Im looking for a check list of things I must do and need etc.

What year and what style of camper do you have?  
 
It is very simple to winterize if you are using anti freeze, most campers have a setup to suck from a hose you can put into a jug of anti freeze. Open your taps one at a time until pink come out

This is what I do for my camper.  
 
Mine didn't have the hose to put in the antifreeze.  
-Remove hot water tank plug if not already out.  
-Turn water bypass switch on. (This was located under the sink at my hot water tank. You don't want antifreeze going into your hot water tank.)  
-Pour 4 gallons of antifreeze into the holding tank. (I also open the holding tank drain till I see antifreeze just in case any water is left in the line)  
-Turn on water pump.  
-Turn on both hot and cold water taps at every station till antifreeze comes out. (Sink, shower, bathroom sink, outside shower)  
-Flush toilet till antifreeze comes out.  
-Take another gallon of antifreeze and pour down all sinks so no water left in the piping traps.  
-REMOVE ALL FOOD FROM CAMPER!! If mice smell food they will be in there. I even vacuum the cupboards out when empty.  
-Open up fridge doors and prop open. (My fridge has a little lever that I can slide open to prevent the doors from shutting.)  
-Disconnect battery and store in a warm dry place. (do not leave directly on ground)  
-It wasn't mentioned but I do this also. Crawl under the camper and look for any openings that mice may potentially crawl into. Spray foam any openings closed. (Ex. My battery container has a 2" hole for air to vent. I put in steel wool to prevent rodents from entering)

I put dryer sheets all over the place under mattresses on top of them between each pillow and blanket.On the seat of chairs in each cupboard. I use close to 2 boxes for each unit. bought from the dollar store.  
 
I wash and store all bedding and pillow in plastic blanket bags that I buy from the dollar store.  
 
I leave a towel on the bottom of my freezer and freezer just in case there is any water dripping after it is shut off. I usually get towels from the dollar store and may just toss them out in the spring. I also leave ant traps in the camper just in case they get in there before I do. I also buy mouse stuff a six pack from home depo is about 12.00.

First of all if you don''t have a hose attached at your pump for doing this get one. Sounds like Fishing guy wastes a lot of antifreeze. I have a 33'' 5th wheel and it takes about 8 litres or less than 2 gallons to do the job. Definitely would not recommend putting antifreeze into your holding tank.  
 
You should have 2 low points under the camper open them and let water drain out of lines. Put caps back on after draining. Next pull plug on hot water tank and drain water from that tank. Put plug back in. Close valve to hot water tank so that no antifreeze goes in hot water tank. There should be a valve at your pump to turn off so it doesn''t start sucking out of the holding tank rather than the antifreeze jug.Now put the hose at the pump into your antifreeze jug and then turn on pump and let it suck antifreeze into lines. Go to tap furthest away from pump and open it until antifreeze comes out, then do other taps (don''t forget outside shower if you have one) and lastly toilet. This is a very easy job definitely not worth paying an RV company $200 to do.

My mattress is sitting directly on carpet so I put 2x4s under it to lift it up. The carpet gets damp in the spring and can mold the mattress. I also make sure the frig and freezer doors are propped open so it doesn't smell.

i winterize a cabin every year. it is not that hard. just make sure you use RV antifreeze, non toxic.  
 
i am also loath to put rv antifreeze in fresh water lines and water heaters. but if you have anything with a water pump on it you need the anti freeze in the pump as well. cause you have to get it all out come spring. although I guess that is a better guarentee you have it right.  
 
i blow mine out with a compresser. but your system needs to have a spot to hook up a compresser.  
 
nice to be able to do it yourself then you can do on your time not the dealers time.  
 
I'd bet if you went down to an RV dealer and asked them a few questions they would give you some hints to watch out for.
