Nope. Don''''t ask vets. It''''s like asking a random person on the street to tell you about their sexual assult/rape/violent childhood/ ect ect ect. Some things are appropriate stranger conversations (did you enjoy the service?) some aren''t (so tell me about all the people you killed/saw being killed). Personally, I'd like to avoid potentially triggering a ptsd flashback for a vet.... so don't even ask him what tours/wars he was in. Pleasantries unless/until they tell you - which they won't. War isn't a good time. Edited by Sarah99, 2017-11-09 20:54:42" |

They enjoy talking about their experiences and their comrade soldiers who are still around. Of course you would never go up to someone randomly, but at one of the services, you strike up a conversation, they would be in uniform They are proud of how they went to war for Canada.
I am very close to Shilo community and their vets,my father-in-law i:ncluded, They like to talk about it, with their
old friends who are old military friends. They do talk about and like for you to ask questions. Although, young and terrible things happened, they stuck together and many a prank was pulled...they were proud.
Some are widowed and with them going from base to base their children may not be close and they like to talk to someone.
