On Saturday July 29, there will be a nation-wide star party. It's sponsored by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

There will be 2 events in the Brandon area. One will be hosted by the Brandon University Astronomical Observatory and held at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. The second will be hosted by the Brandon and Area Astronomical Society and will be held in Spruce Woods Provincial Park. For more details visit the event listing.

What all is involved with these parties? Just looking threw telescopes at the stars? Or music and food or..?

Looking through telescopes at various o:bjects like Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon and other o:bjects.  
 
A star party is basically a gathering of amateur astronomers who get together at a dark site to look through telescopes.
