So my fiance and I are hoping to go to las vegas this year coming up probably closer to summer or fall but not sure yet. However my main question is were planning on driving and never even been to the states so having said that what's the best route? We were thinking 14 down to 41 and down ward through north dakota, south dakota,wyomming,utah,arizonia,nevada. We are planning to stop on the way there and back for 1 night so we dont have to drive at night. I was really trying to find a drive video on YouTube but could only find one from winnipeg and it was time lapsed to. Also we were thinking maybe after vegas to even head to la/ california for a day or two the up to san Fran for a day or two any thought is greatly appreciated thank you very much!

Not 100% sure yet Farley flexible but I'm thinking around a week in vegas which I donno might be much for bob gamblers/drinkers lol but we do plan on going to grand canyon and hoovers dam. But ya thinking a week in vegas and 2 days la and 2 days san fran but might change it to 4 days las vegas I kind if want to be there for the weekdays and weekend though.

And 2 days there 2 days back so about 1 to 2 weeks ish.

We drove and it is about 2400km.  
Depending on your driving habits and stop you can do it in 2 days, but we were more relaxed.  
Take 83 to Bismarck, then 94 across to Butte Mt, then head south .  
The speed limit is 75-80 mph so you can cover ground in a hurry.

So your saying closer to 2 days I was going off Google maps they say about 23 hours so I was thinking about a day and half and that was with stopping for the night stops and traffic etc and border crossing am I wrong you think? It's a little bit further distance to lv then vancouver and we did vancouver in about a day and bit but I have never been to the states so I don't know if it'll take longer or less.

If you’re not worried about seeing things on the drive you need to get to I15 as quick as possible.  
 
If it were me I’d go Brandon-Minot-Dickinson-Spearfish-Gillette-Casper-Rawlins-Provo-Las Vegas.

We make the drive to Las Vegas annually. Tried a few different routes. The quickest and the easier is south to Bismarck then I-94 to Butte, Montana then south on I-15 right to Las Vegas. We like the interstates because you can always find gas stations and restaurants that are open. And rest stops along the way that are nice. If the weather turns bad it’s easier to find hotels and they get out and start clearing the roads right away. It’s the only route we take now. We do it in 3 days. Stop at Billing’s, MT first night then around Salt Lake City the second night. Make it to Las Vegas halfway through day 3.

Good to know !! Not sure if we are driving or flying! I prefer to fly myself!!

Yes trevor that's actually the exact way I was thinking lol. However now I'm thinking scamp makes a good point to. I won't be going in winter I dont think but it might be possible around the end of February but probably not till spring or later. How is it driving at night do you know? I would rather drive straight through but I dont want to end up in the wrong spot period but at night is alot worse lol.

If you want to save some time while driving, pack a cooler with bottles of ice to keep stuff cold. Put in cold cuts, bread, and whatever else and make sandwiches on the go. Mind you, stopping every 5 to 6 hours for gas/food/potty/stretch is good too.  
 
There are several ways to get to Vegas if you want to sight see along the way. Lots to see. We took 4 days to drive to Phoenix, but we saw lots of stuff along the way. It all depends on what you want to do. Have a great trip.

Totaly agree zach when we went to vancouver this summer we filled a cooler with water bottles,sandwiches and ice it's a definite I like to only stop for gas and use the washroom when we get gas then back going. I know there is probably tons to see and I do want to see as much as possible but I also want to get there as fast as possible to. That's why else I dont want to drive at night because you cant see much.

I don’t think CAA does this anymore.

Will have to ask them if they still do that or not that would be a cool idea.
