Looking at moving to Banff or that area for a change. I think living in the mountains would be fun and Was wondering if anyone has lived there and what there experience was like. what people like or dislike about the area. Is there lots of work there. anything to help me with this decision would be nice.

I haven't lived in either but visit both often and I would choose Canmore over Banff. Less commercialized but still lots to do. Canmore seems to be growing too so should be lots of opportunities there. If I was in a position to move right now I would definitely choose Canmore. You can always visit Banff as its just down the road.

I dont know how reasonable the rental market would be, cost-wise. I was curious about housing in Banff this summer and checked out listings on realtor.ca and it was unbelievable how much things were there. I would suggest going to indeed.ca and searching for jobs in Banff. That would give you an idea on what is available, likely a lot of seasonal work either summer or winter.

Years ago when I worked in the hospitality industry in Banff, housing was i:ncluded. Not sure if this is still the case or not but it was a pretty sweet deal at the time! P.s.- I LOVED my time living there!

snowman1, had you ever considered Fernie BC? The city is definitely in the mountains. Skiing/snowboarding/hockey in the winter, mountain biking/hiking/golfing/baseball in the summer. There are a lot of jobs to be had in the hospitality industry as well as retail. Community is very friendly and constantly changing with people coming in from all over the world. Only downside is finding accommodation, which is difficult but not impossible.

Yes lived in the Bow Valley for over 20 years. Fabulous place to live if you like the outdoors and mountain activities. Downside is the high cost of living - the highest in Alberta. Way, way higher than Manitoba. Affordable accommodation, even shared accommodation, is very very scarce. Main industry is Tourism - plenty of jobs available in the hospitality industry but may not be full time. Don't go without accommodation sorted out.

They are beautiful places. Like the rest of that area, busy in the summer, but not so busy in the winter.
