My family of 5 has never flown before. We are going to the east coast in August, and wondering where and when we can get the best priced tickets.
Any tips??

Westjet sales every Tuesday

WestJet announces their sales on Tuesdays, not a lot of bargains these days, though. You can follow them, and Air Canada on-line to track prices.

In my case midnight flight out on a Tuesday. Return to Winnipeg midnight on a Sunday.

The WestJet credit card can earn you travel miles. It lets you have one buddy pass per year for $99 but the annual fee on the credit card is $120. If you earn Airmiles you can use that too.

Is it best to book with a travel agent or directly from airline or from an app, like flight hub / kayak, etc.
Also would you buy tickets in advance or wait closer to the day?

Since you’re not going until August you have a couple of months to watch for seat sales. If you can avoid flying on weekends that will be cheaper as well.

And the WJ Elite MasterCard gives you your 1st bag and up to 8 guests on your same itinerary bags for free too. Otherwise they charge $30-35 a bag.

There are two cards. One no fee and no buddy pass. The 120 fee card has a requirement of 80 grand personal or 140 family income. I don't know if that is still the case. The companion flight you still have to pay for the taxes and fees.

Here is a comparison of the 2 cards. Yes the Elite requires a minimum $80K personal or $150K family income.
