To go to the Dells is the end of August as far as I'm concerned. It's still hot, but ND kids are already back in school and most Wisconsin and Minnesota kids are heading back shortly. So we end up being there with mostly Canadians anyway...lol
We prefer the "Wilderness Resort" to stay and play at. it is clean, in good repair and you really don't have to leave the resort if you don't want to. It is a bit higher in cost than some of the other hotels around there, but I find it worth it.
If you are going with more than one family, I strongly suggest sharing a larger "house" like accommodation at the resort. I can't recall what they are called persay, but they are offerings that are basically like condos as opposed to hotel rooms. We have stayed in both and if you have a second family to share the cost with, the house option is the way to go. You have your own kitchen and multiple bathrooms that way, and bedrooms you can close the door on to let little ones nap.
The Wilderness resort has so many different things to do, rain or shine, that we have just come to enjoy it more than any other place. Outdoor pools and slides, indoor and outdoor mini gold, go carts, lazer tag.....
My one complaint about the resort is the food offerings. We always find ourselves leaving the resort if we don't get a kitchenette because the restaurants on site are pricey and don't have a ton of offerings.
We love the wave pool at the WR!!
