While MB's State of Emergency continues for a month, Public Health Orders are set to expire May 1st unless otherwise renewed. Two different things.
That said, Premier Palister says he wants MB to be the first province in Canada to reopen, saying yesterday he'd "like to see Manitoba become the first in the nation to bring its economy back online, as long as public safety can be assured and testing capacity increases". Another day of no change in Manitobans hospitalized, at eight, which i:ncludes five intensive care. Manitoba has 105 active cases and 144 who have fully recovered.
Ontario also wants to open for business. Doug Ford said yesterday he's working on plan. “Eventually we have to turn the economy on, and the framework must have strict criteria and key benchmarks that must be met before lifting or easing restrictions." The province's new modelling numbers yesterday painted a much more optimistic picture than previously projections, suggesting Ontario will likely only see 20,000 cases, 60,000 fewer cases than projected.
Manitoba Campers may have a place to go starting May 1. If the provincial health order is relaxed at month's end, many Westman campgrounds are ready to open to seasonal customers May 1st. Most if not all, have plans in place to ensure social distancing within the grounds that will protect both staff and customers. Customers will be notified of any changes and guidelines before the open date.
Same goes for golfers in MB, hoping for the all-clear at month's end, for gatherings of up to 50 people. Right now, the number of people is 10, both indoors and outside. That measure, first put in place March 30, was recently extended to April 28, but Manitoba course professionals hope this will soon be relaxed.
The first jurisdiction in North America to "get back to business" will be Georgia and it will come Friday. Georgia will open gyms, hair salons, bowling alleys and tattoo parlors to reopen as long as owners follow social-distancing and hygiene requirements. Elective medical procedures would also resume. By Monday, movie theaters may resume selling tickets, and restaurants limited to takeout orders could return to limited dine-in service. Tennessee will open Monday along with Colorado, and South Carolina.
Hot on the heels of Manitoba's Garden Centres opening to customers, the City of Brandon’s green cart program is back starting Tuesday, May 5th. Once underway, weekly pick-up will be will continue through to early November, weather permitting.
