I've spent the last five years building a little mahogany runabout, and am about ready to launch.  
 
I have really no exposure to nearby water sources so I'm looking for suggestions. It's currently a 2 stroke outboard so clear lake is out, plus all national parks and I'm guessing some other places as well. I have limited ability to transport so I'm hoping for somewhere nearby with a decent launch.

That's likely your best bet for a good launch close by (20 min) and it's a long enough lake you'll be able to open it up. Problem currently is the water levels are so high with the dam that they didn't have any of the boat launch docks in when I was there 2 weekends ago, couldn't tell you if its better now or not.

Not sure what your definition of “nearby” might be, but Lake Watopanah, Oak Lake, Minnedosa Lake, Pelican Lake, Shoal Lake, Lake Metigoshe, and the Deloraine reservoir are all closer or a similar distance to Clear Lake and I believe have good boat launch access. I’m likely missing some too.
