driving down to Vegas

Has anyone driven down to Las Vegas? We are planning to go in about two weeks and were wondering if anyone had any advice on where to stay overnight along the way? or which route to take? sights to see? any good restaurants (hopefully cheap)? does the border crossing near Deloraine (to Souris/Minot ND) stay open 24 hours, i cant seem to find any info on that?
Any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
