Summer holiday plans

Yeah I know, there's a winter storm watch right now... but thinking of brighter things, where are people looking at going for holidays in the summer?
We'd like to stay on the continent but are leaning towards driving to one of the US coasts.. California or New York. If its Cali, I can see a few day pit-stop on Vancouver Island again before heading south.
