I would like to take my kids for a ride out there, but I'm wondering what kind of ID we need. We all have our birth certificates but they are the ones without parents names. Also my husband is waiting for his new drivers card so would a status card do? (It's not the new enhanced one). While on this subject where is a good place to get passport pics done? That's easy on the wallet. Thanks

Who all is getting a passport? Are you doing it here or in Winnipeg? I just did my kids and I needed the birth certificates with the parents names. We did them in Winnipeg so we just had the photos done there. It's in the basement of the passport building and it was $10 per person - way cheaper than you'll find in Brandon and guaranteed or they'll retake them for free.

If I remember correctly you don't need a passport to go into the peace gardens

You are not going outside Canada. You will enter back through the Canada customs but going through standard ID including status card would work since it is a valid form of ID.

I read on IPG website it is considered leaving Canada, so I figured the kids would need ID to get back in just unsure what would be accepted. I am ordering long form birth certificates for everyone to get our passports.

It's been probably 2 years since I've been there, but we had the kids' birth certificate with us. I don't think they checked them, just the driver's (regular) driver's license.  
 
Passports are not mandatory for Canadians entering Canada. They are mandatory for Canadians entering the US.

Well,I learned this weekend the correct answer to your question.. You enter the Peace Garden on the right side,, There are 2 people there taking your $ 15.00 admittance's fee, They then give you a card stating you have paid... All is well,,Lovely afternoon.. Now we prepare to leave which is when you have to go through Customs with an officer sitting there. My girlfriend was driving & had her passport & id..I had my Driver's licence & my birth certificate..He then said to me, ( Did you not know that to enter the Peace Gardens you need to have a passport ? ) I said no I didn't, but I also said how come they did not tell me that when they took my $$ . I cannot believe that actually happened..I hope this info will prevent someone else from going through this experience.. I will be getting passport now for sure...
