Yay! I am interested in this and want to go. I don't really know what book clubs do but I like reading and talking so I guess that is what you most likely do???  
 
Have you ever been in a book club? What was it like?

I am so happy Brandon Library is having a book club. I have been in a book club and loved it.  
Basically, a book is assigned to be read, and everyone gets together a month later and discusses it. It's great.  
Tea and treats are a bonus. I wish I lived in Brandon. Enjoy

The book you read chosen?  
Did you have any say in the choice or was it just what the organizers picked?  
 
I just think man you have to pick something that appeals to a lot of people. Not an easy task.  
 
And it's too bad you don't live here and can't join.

This is a great idea! I have belonged to book clubs in the past and basically it is a group decision as what book or author to read for the club. I ended up discovering new authors and enjoyed the discussions.

Librarygirl that sounds like a good way to pick something. Unless of course it's people like me and my friends involved.

are different ways of picking books. The group could decide to assign a category a month, eg: January is Biographys, February is Suspense, March is Romance etc.  
The idea is to expand your reading into something you may never have approached on your own. You could take the Canada Reads selections, or The Giller Prize short list.  
The group discussion is my favorite, how other people see the characters and their motivation. Have fun

I like the theme thing. It definitely puts you outside your comfort zone!

So once they have picked the book do you have to go buy it every month? I realize that it is probably available at the library but I doubt they have that many copies of one book every month

I never really thought of that. I have a Kobo so pretty much have access to any book. I don't mind spending a reasonable amount of money on ebooks if it means I get to talk with people about it.  
 
Also the Rotary book sale is at the end of March. I hope a few of the future reads are given at the 1st meeting so I can check the book sale for them.  
 
I really look forward to this book club. It has been years since I have been involved in any kind of a group or sport with others.

First meeting is tonight for anyone who was wanting to try it out.
