Science and religion do co exist, its the fundamentalist Christian that has a problem with science, most christian's agree with science but the fundamentalist who take the bible literally cant accept science because it disagrees with the bible, science isnt out to disprove god they just try and figure out how thing happened and so far the bible hasn't been too accurate on most things.

is this man had a brilliant mind. Just saw the movie about his life on Netflix. Now will have to finish the story one day when/if they make a remake. RIP.

A great man has passed on. A man who overcame great obstacles in his personal life to become one of the most reknown thinkers of our time. Regardless of the conflict between science and religion or not whatever your personal feelings are. Can we just take a moment to reflect on the strength of character that he must have had to achieve so much

Plate tectonics is a scientifically proven fact.  
Evolution is at play everyday, but it takes a very long time to see it. Fact.  
Humans have worshipped some 5000 different gods over the millenia. And every single one of them was created by humans. Fact.

This whole exchange is what I was saying is pointless. What's the point in taking a persons faith from them? What's the point in convincing an atheist to believe in things that don't make any sense to them.  
 
I think mustard is disgusting...You may like it...doesn't mean they should force me to eat it nor does it mean it should be taken off the shelves. Also, the vast majority of people don't care either way.  
 
Your right, I am posting too much, you got me but it's not anything to do with God vs Science I don't care at all. It's one of the biggest idiot test debates I can think of. What I get drawn in to is the stupidity of these threads and for whatever reason I can't just let it go. I wish I could but I think if everyone, especially the people on the side of science could follow a bit more of the scientific philosophy and research on there own, be open to conflicting facts most of the stupid polarizing threads would disappear.  
 
Some people need God, some people need magnetic wristbands, what difference does it make? The only ones hurting anyone will never accept that there is no god. So you prove to 100 people that there is no god, would you be happy? It's like telling a kid Santa doesn't exist before they're in a place where they can accept that...

This thread is for us to reflect on the passing of a great man. A man who when most of us would have given up to the disease ALS a man who fought to not only live his life but to become one of the greatest minds in the world. How many of us can look in the mirror and even say we had an original thought that contributed to the betterment of your local community let alone to the furthering of knowledge of mankind. Whether you agree or disagree with what he said or wrote. This man had more strength and courage than anyone I know of. So keep your thoughts about God, gods, and science for another thread or even better to yourself!!!!!!!

I kind of think Pray it Forward purposely added that to the original post because he/she found it relative to their thoughts about Stephen Hawking. The original post has led this thread toward thoughts about God, gods and science.

Just wondering from which scientific article you pulled that info from since a huge percentage of scientists either believe in a God or are agnostic.

In addition to his incredible intellect, Professor Hawking also had a very sharp, well developed sense of humour. Here's a 2014 interview he did with John Oliver where the professor schools the comedian.

No scientific article. History texts. Anthropology texts. Archaeological texts. You know, the study of human HISTORY?  
 
How many different cultures in the world today? How many different cultures now extinct?  
They all have their own "gods"...

First off I will say that we have lost a great person in regards to theoretical physicist, and the application to trying to explain things like time,matter and energy in the universe.  
So in best interest of not trying to demean a great person, or start a fight, I would like to make a comment on belief.  
How many of you out there believe in exterestial life, how many civilizations have come and gone, through time, believing in life from another place, how much of this belief has been recorded, and how much of it has been proven by "fact". Now stop and think how society poo hoo's those who have claimed to have seen UFO'S, or how many have had their ability to think "logicall" questioned.  
Do you believe in UFO'S, or extraterrestrials, do you have history, do you have fact, or is it simply like Stephen Hawkins, he has beliefs.  
Beliefs are a funny thing, we all have them to a certain degree, but it's one of those things where critizing comes first, and understanding comes second.  
Just for the record I believe there is a force that puts order in the chaos, call it what you want, and I also believe in other life.

is a human made system based on personal beliefs. It was used to explain things that were unknown at the time. Anything that was unexplainable was consider some higher powers doing, aka a god.
