What are those? There a re a lot right now!!!

We witnessed approx. 10-20 lights travelling west to east in a clear sky. Seems they may have been in a line? Unusual I suppose. There has to be some reasonable explanation tho

New to Ebrandon, so I'm new to this as well...good to know...there goes my story for the day tho. I was even gonna throw in a few details of my own: lasers, little green dudes and such..dang!!!

So this is why I've heard stories from astronomers annoyed by these things.

They were talking about this on CBC the other day. Space X is trying to put 30,000 of them in a relatively low orbit to provide internet to everyone. There's several other similar projects by other companies in the works as well, with similar projected numbers.  
 
So in the space of only a few years, there could be upwards of 100,000 of them in the sky, in addition to the thousands of satellites already up there.

they really hurt astronomy, especially if you are taking astrophotos. And not just a nuisance for amateurs but for professionals as well. Most photo processing software can remove the occasional satellite, but some images I have seen have dozens of streaks of Starlink satellites. While Heavens Above and other software can show where and what time satellites pass, but Starlink can automatically reposition which affects timing and location.

I was trying to remember the context for the piece after I posted, I remember with was with Andrew Fazekas. The gist was the astronomy generally was in danger, as Earth-based telescopes had to contend with this satellite business, but orbital ones had their own issues with hacking. It's apparently an increasing problem and risking the ability to conduct research.
