They were talking about this on CBC the other day. Space X is trying to put 30,000 of them in a relatively low orbit to provide internet to everyone. There's several other similar projects by other companies in the works as well, with similar projected numbers.
So in the space of only a few years, there could be upwards of 100,000 of them in the sky, in addition to the thousands of satellites already up there.
