I think he did/does have it, but much earlier than what's officially been reported.
There's been no reporting of any investigation as to *who* brought the uninvited guest to the Rose Garden, and that's likely because they already know - it was Trump. He had contact with all the people who have gotten sick, and it also fits the timeline as to when he ended up at Walter Reed... you tend to be your sickest at 7-10 days into the course of the illness, which fits the timeline.
He didn't take the Covid test he was supposed to before the debate, refuses to disclose when his last negative test was (which, if nothing else, *should* have been the Rose Garden as all attendees were required to take the test to be admitted), and his hand was only forced when Hope Hicks revealed she was positive (she told the media, not the White House).
I think he picked up somewhere, realized he was sick but figured he was fit, young and healthy (lol) and could beat it, and hoped to infect Biden at the debate, thinking he was old and frail and would succumb. That's my crazy theory anyway, and i"m probably wrong. It reads like a bizarre spy/politico novel. But what stinks is all the over people he infected along the way, hopefully none of them will be collateral damage death and health-wise.
