Trump banned from social media

Twitter recently permanently suspended his account. Along with Facebook/Instagram, YouTube. Facebook so far is only till after Jan. 20.

So at the moment his only option is Parler or 4chan.

And for the record, those are private businesses and the Freedom of Speech (US) and Freedom of Expression (Canada) do not extend to private businesses. These are only for government against you, but still there are restrictions. You don't have the right to incite violence among other things. Just like on here which is a private business, you must adhere to the Terms of Service or face the consequences.

Just like at your job, there are rules that you must follow. You can't say anything want and say it's your right

In all seriousness, was pretty unbelievable the amount of hate and lies that were able to be spread. Absolutely should be freedom to express until it’s maliciously damaging, at which point he’s owed nothing regardless of title. FB in particular was way softer than it should be on that sort of stuff... even going as far as wilfully taking stands to allow when called out on questionable postings that their competitor pushed back against. Funny what the threat of anti-trust and political realignment can do.

Next up, an effective pushback vs the awful epidemic of lies and disinformation about Covid that’s spread and poisoned worldwide response to the virus.

All social media should extend this ban to tRumps hate mongering family members as well. They are as complicit in spreading his rhetoric and lies as he is.

It is too bad that private companies have to be the first to place any sanctions on this man. The Senate and Congress need to amp up their efforts to remove him from office, now.

Parler is now down. Cloudflare has rescinded its services from 4chan.

The sad thing is that it should have been clear to all of these social media platforms that these sorts of actions should have been taken years ago.

But, you know, there was a great deal of money to be made accommodating these lunatics all this time. Now it's a matter of cutting them loose so they can say they actually did something when the corporate bigwigs are called to stand before Congress to explain themselves.

Corporations are not inherently left or right leaning, they are just doing what they can to grow larger/stronger/wealthy. Be it grifting the right, or signaling virtue for the left.

Anyone grumbling about free speech or censorship on this also doesn't understand how the First Amendment works. Corporations are not obligated to host anything, and now that the people espousing all this crazy have become a liability to them they're cutting them loose.

I feel sorry for the rest of the American people excluding the rednecks and extremists that breeched the Capitol. Basically an unhinged lunatic with orange hair is holding the country hostage with his personal only tantrums much less what a President or any kind of leader should be doing. Equally to blame are the surrounding cast that just let it happen. A re- occurring nightmare that has to end now.

I've noticed a lot of comments dehumanizing Trudeau. I've even tried to counter them but get slammed. Most of their arguments do not even make sense or are filled with so-called facts that I am unable to counter.

I do not follow any party line and every election year debate about who is going to do less damage before I make my choice at the polls. Not that my vote has much impact as Brandon area always votes Conservative. At first I liked O'Toole, now I'm seeing too many parallels with MAGA.

tried to fight that battle as well. But just keep getting called a brainwashed liberal sheep. and to stop drinking the kool-aid. The funniest thing is that they are the brainwashed sheep much more.

I now lean left, mostly because the otherside disgusts me now. But hold no allegiance to any party. I have voted for all parties before. Ya, O'Toole want's to mirror Trump. That's because many Conservatives wish trump would be our Prime Minister.

have you ever seen anyone with Obama, Bill Clinton, George Bush flags, hats and whatever else like you do with trump? This is a cult with trump as it's supreme and forever leader. This cult is so brainwashed to believe anything and everything he says.

And you see it everywhere where trumps supporters are denying that it was fellow trump supporters did this. Many are claiming it was ANTIFA/BLM members who did all this. The say his recent videos that were on his Twitter account were fake. Just don't think there is anyway to change their minds. They believe every conspiracy theory.

We are entering scary times politically, then add on the pandemic.

The major concern is that there may be as many as 73,000,000 sheep that follow him. How do you begin to deprogrammed that many people? Are there enough Psychologists and Psychiatrists to go round?

He gave off so many hints at his rally’s about what his plans were. He told them at a rally before the election that if they did not vote for him, he would never speak to them again and that he would leave the country. The FBI might want to check his flight plans before he flies off.

I think I touched upon this in my previous post. This isn't censorship. No government is silencing Donald Trump or any of his supporters.

Donald Trump, and those who rabidly support him, have become an inconvenience at the very least, or a liability at the absolute worst, to the interests of these corporations that provide broad platforms to all who would accept their End User License Agreements.

Unless you control the method and means of conveying your message, you are operating solely by the grace of those who can provide these things. If you become a problem to these entities, you will be discarded. You agree to be discarded at any time for any reason when you sign up for things.

I could wake up tomorrow and this post could be gone. I could even be banned. This is Adam's forum, and he has full control. It is not censorship for him to delete the things I share here at his discretion. C'est la vie.

I will never understand the misplaced sense of entitlement some people feel they have.

On a related note, Senator Josh Hawley's actions have caused his publisher to cancel a pending book deal.

Hawley responded by saying he is being censored, and that this is "Orwellian". As has been commented before, these folks don't understand that no one is repressing his right to speak, it's just that his book publisher no longer wants to be party to this.

He's still got his free speech. Let him do like some recording artists do. They release songs openly on the internet. Hawley could do the same with his book : unless, of course, it's the money that's more important to him ?

If I ever get to the point where I’m engaging in hate speech or inciting violence I hope “they” do. We’re better than that as a society, which is why we have hate speech and libel laws... and I’m glad the USA is starting to make it more clear that they are too.

As far as those from the right on this side of the border, I’d be real hesitant to automatically label as being part of tr***ism. There’s definitely been the odd one that’s overtly tried to ride the same “wave” if you want to call it that, but it generally has been rejected (I.e. the guy who broke off from the Conservatives to start his own party only to get nowhere in the election or the guy who tried to run for party leadership this time around and wasnt close to winning). Others that have tried to go about it with dog whistle and not as overtly identify with but also not separate themselves from it. Others I think wish tr*** never won because of the difficult place it’s put a more traditional conservative politician in. For me because of what’s gone on in the states I’ve watched for which politicians make it clear that they do not support the ideologies behind tr***ism and I think going forward there will be pressure on politicians to make clear their stance on it for hope of support from the independent voter such as myself that’s normally open to any of the major parties on any given year.

The idea of free speech is such a slippery slope and so is any regulation of free speech.
Do we leave the concept of free speech wide open to say what you want no matter who gets hurt. Does free speech allow the narratives of a madman/person to manipulate society and its people to the point of violence and civil war? Do we carry it so far to say free speech allows free action to do what you want such as steal, commit fraud and lie.

Is that what people see as acceptable under the guise of free speech?

I have a number of friends who hold different religious views, lifestyle views from my own. I would fight for them to believe those views regardless of how silly I think they are. Where I have a problem is when those views under the guise of free speech start to hurt other people. When truth is manipulated resulting in people getting hurt.

In a true democracy free speech means everyone is entitled to their own opinions, to voice and celebrate their views. I have noticed a number of vehicles in Brandon marked with stickers about 'Jesus is lord'. But what if a member of the Muslim community put stickers on their vehicle that "Allah is great". What would happen to those people/vehicles in our community?

That tells me that as humans we do not yet understand nor are able to accept what free speech really means.

But the conservative party is using the same tactics as Trump to manipulate the people of Canada and people are being sucked in. These tactics use fear and dehumanize, break the trust people have in our government system. Once you incite fear in the population then you control that population and they will do what ever you tell them to do. Case in point...just look at what Trump did on January 6 2021

I’ve seen nothing that would suggest any party on this side of the border has any interest in seeing anything in Canada remotely like what we’ve seen in USA this week. There’s opportunity to at least partially heal some of the divides we’ve seen widen even in Canada these past four years but it has to start with being open to less of an “us vs them” kind of mindset and avoiding assumptions as much as there is absolutely more pressure on those from the right side of the spectrum to make it clear where they stand on tr***ism and its anti-democratic, dehumanizing elements.

my post, I said it could incite possible violence. We do have our fair share of crazies that would do something. But if you look through O'Toole's Twitter and Facebook feed, he has many posts and memes that incite fear and that could lead to some sort of violence.

I know from my own Facebook feed that there are many that believe the Q conspiracies, will only listen to news sources that feed their fears, believe the conservative way is the only way. They believe if your liberal, your anti-Canadian.

problem with social media? Take something and turn it into a totally different thing?
Let's face it, we all have our "party" that we like and try to promote but let's not try to put anything that's not the truth into other people's minds. The written word is powerful and unfortunately some will read the words, any words and take it for gospel just because they can read such words.

any time Trevor posts about Trump he needs to somehow get a shot in at the Conservative party or O'Toole. Let people read the news and make up their own minds.
BTW, I have never heard of Parler and 4chan before the original post above. Facebook is enough of a toilet for me. Can't believe what some people can post there and get away with. Ugh!
