what the Conservative party is being turned into. At one time I could support what they want and even voted Conservative. The rhetoric that the current Conservatives spread is dangerous and is in line with many of the trump policies.

federally for the first time ever last election. Never cared for them but felt the need to vote against the Libs who have got my vote ever since I could vote.
There are lots of things the Libs have done that I'm not to happy with. Carbon tax, the way the CERB money was handed out, people who never worked a day in their life applied and there it was, 8 grand of easy cash. And since they've never worked a day in their life I highly doubt they can repay a nickel.
Don't like how the Libs scaled back on health care transfers to provinces either, put us in a real pickle especially with covid.
Every party has it's own warts Trevor, do you really feel the need to always compare the cons to the libs?
I don't remember too much negative posting about the libs, Adam does try to delete contentious posts.
And there you are again, calling the cons rhetoric dangerous.

I do believe there is responsibility for a stronger response from deputy leader and party if deputy leader was at least at one time supportive enough to wear the M*GA hat... even if it happened to be a few years ago and even if condemning what happened on Wednesday. For someone that could be in a significant place of leadership and influence in the country, I have an issue if they were in any way fanning the flames over any of these past four years and didn't have the ability to see where the whole movement could eventually lead. Maybe it was an opposite day or Halloween costume (not that either is a free pass)... and very possible that the timing of the photo coming out wasn't a coincidence, but not being more clear at this point is an issue that will hang over until clarified.

I wouldn't call that hatred, it's called politics. Politics has always been a dirty game. But it's politics! Not for the faint of heart. But at the end of the day, if one of them dies they will pay tribute to them.

President Trump obviously should be held accountable at the very least for the violence and unrest that occurred in Washington on Wednesday, I’m thinking that he must be feeling pretty lonely now as his team members and supporters fall away from his circle.
We also must remember that other countries can only condemn these actions, this is for the United States to sort out, this is their problem and we also must remember that pretty well half of those that voted in November’s election did indeed vote republican. I expect that some of those probably regret their previous support for President Trump after Wednesday’s events, many of those supporters are likely not racist or bigots. There seems to be half of the electorate that feel disenfranchised and that is a problem that needs to be addressed.
If people are going to throw a wobbly over a Canadian Politician wearing a hat in a photograph then they had better be upset about the many hats , T shirts etc worn by many people with offensive language and expletives clearly visible upon them or inferred by them.

As far as those from the right on this side of the border, I’d be real hesitant to automatically label as being part of tr***ism. I think Adam is treating those words as curse words. No different than any other ebrandon poster who uses a * to replace some letters in a few choice words when the situation warrants an expletive.

But I would be cool with someone creating an algorhythm or something that would automatically do that anytime anyone posts the name of who-that-should-not-be-named.

There's a grain of truth there. Politics are very much a spectrum, contrary to what things look like right now. There are crazies, and crazy conspiracy theories on both the left and the right.

Now, I consider myself mostly centrist, although I've leaned both left and right through the years at different times. I've read *a lot* about politics, about Trump, about the 2016 election, the craziness etc from both sides over the past few years.

One thing I've noticed in recent months is that a lot of what I dismissed as "crazy" from the left has actually come to pass. It's actually kinda uncanny how much has come true, clearly and rather o:bjectively.

Craziness from the right? Not so much. Although I'm very concerned about what's next, based on the track record thus far.

I'm trying to decide if you're being facetious or not. I have occasionally see curse words used on ebrandon in the manner I described above, if used sparingly and the situation warrants. I have even used them myself without noticing any editing or removal of posts. Outright swearing is always removed.

As it's been pointed out elsewhere in this thread, ebrandon is Adam's property and he's entitled to make the rules as he sees fit.

Nope not being facetious just trying to understand. I have seen many posts on eBrandon with the curse word written out fully and they are never removed so I was wondering if now we are suppose to **** our curse words. Also good to know that T**** is a curse. Anyways I understand now and don't want to get a PM warning for getting the topic off track and being banned. So thanks again Abbysmum!

Not a curse, a personal choice. Not one I'd force on anyone else, nor would I hold it against anyone if they did.
If you ever see an actual curse in a post, it's no more acceptable than it ever has been considering the potentially all-ages audience. In those cases I always appreciate reports sent through the "report" link thats next to every post on the site!

I don’t want to get PM’d either but Abbysmum , not sure of your definition of “outright swearing” but you don’t have to read a lot of discussion on here to see words like damn, hell, Jesus, Christ, some maybe substitute an ! for an I or the $ for an S but I would consider those words as swearing. But that’s not this discussion...
And I am no political expert...barely a follower, especially US politics. From what I saw, there wasn’t much political policy in that election, it was mostly based on perception and personality. Not much we can do about that other than complain, and I think from discussion on here that is being done very well.
I like to think our elections are based a little more on party policy. Some people on here seem to think that every person should vote for the same party. I think in general people pretty much vote for a party based on how they can end up at the end of the year (or their life) with the most money.
Of course there are exceptions but often The Liberals will get the vote of corporate executives and upper level business as well as Federal/provincial employees. Their policies tend to benefit those people. The Conservatives will get the majority of their votes from the Agricultural sector and small/private business owners. Their policies tend to cater in that direction. The NDP are more likely to be supported by the Union people and those that depend highly on some sort of social program for their income. All these people vote - maybe subconsciously- for the party that will put them in best financial position. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. There may be some vote swapping between Conservatives and Liberals, and some between NDP and Liberals but probably not much between conservatives and NDP, their ideologies are a little farther apart
So when it comes down to it, we almost decide which party we will support when we decide our life vocation... I wouldn’t expect people going into a unionized trade (Teachers, Postal workers, some sectors of manufacturing and construction) to vote for the Conservative party. Neither do I think that too many farmers and small business owners are going to support the NDP. That wouldn’t be of the greatest benefit to them. And there isn’t anything wrong with that, it’s what makes us a democracy.
I would expect that most of that holds true for the US elections as well. They only have the 2 parties, which has its advantages, but this time around it would probably be better if there was a strong third party. Maybe it would hold the other 2 to more transparency and reasonable accountability. That seems quite lacking.

Right from the beginning of the Trump presidency a lot of people figured a train wreck was going to happen, but is it over yet. There are still numerous posts, on different social media sites, that are still promoting that things were not done right in regards to the election.
Freedom of speech, and press, are important to democracy, but the promotion of hatred is a big problem. History has sort of proven that people are easily swayed given times of social uncertainty, and there is always the “enemy”, whether it is a race, religion, political ideology or numerous other favorite phrases, and the outcome is never good.
What is happening in so many countries makes me want to crawl under a rock, and come out once sanity returns.

Not relevant: whether or not delpmb has a picture or two floating around on social media of partying

Relevant: when someone in a position where they’re hoping to be second in command in deciding direction of this country has a picture that brings about real questions about their political ideology and they don’t answer those questions directly and clearly.

Which actually brings us to a great opportunity to circle this back to the main topic of this thread. One of the issues with t****’s Twitter is this idea of false equivalencies to try to make points. Here’s hoping that without the title of President and with less of a spotlight on the ridiculousness being spread on his Twitter that the trend is back towards facts mattering.

FarmerGeorge makes some good points above re not every supporter being in favour of the darkest aspects of t***pism, but at the same time it’s gotta be hard pretending they didn’t know that there were some scary tradeoffs being made in exchange for any political wins.

Regarding it being another country’s problem, I agree up to a point in that we should only be so immersed... but it’s hard to deny that especially over the last couple years the same ideology has crept over the border in some and that a big part of the origin is South of 49. There’s quite a bit at stake in the statement that’s being made here that facts, decency and empathy matter and that none of the above need to be the domain of one political party over another.

What they’re doing is great. No room for platforms for hate. Whether t**** tries to make the jump to existing or create one of his own it doesn't look like he'll have an easy path to spewing lies and manipulating en masse.

Maybe the photo is from his first campaign run and she supported him then. No one knew how bad he would actually be before he was ever president. Had he not started a riot this photo would be irrelevant. Unless you cans find an actual date this photo was taken it shouldn’t be held against her political career.

social media platform that he makes will be scrutinized, including any phone apps. While with Android phones you can create the .apk and install that way without going through Google. But don't think Apple allows that.

While they can claim that the new platform will be open to free speech with no censorship, you can bet your butt that if you post anything the doesn't tow the trump line or against him. You will be attacked and censored.

i don't get why any one in canada would support him. forget everything he's said/done but he isn't canadian, i don't get the obession for support.

a couple times a buddy of mine was in a store and heard the same guy (every time. most recently canadian tire) yelling with some swearing mixed in over his support for trump, wearing a trump pin. its reached beyond supporting, it's a cult that's trickled into canada the last 4 years

That the message here for everyone is that extremist beliefs and actions of any kind ( be they left, right or religious) need to be avoided and discouraged as they are the cause of much suffering and pain around the world.
Society and politics needs to become more inclusive to prevent extremism.

PGA has announced the 2022 event for his course in Bedminister, NJ is canceled. There's a whole host of other companies that are breaking ties with him and others who encouraged something like the Capitol riot to happen. It's being reported that he's going after the social media platforms somehow. He's been wanting Section 230 removed, but that just solidifies their ability to censor and ban people.

Articles of Impeachment have been made and possibly brought to the House on Monday. There is also talk of delaying sending it to the Senate for 100 days.

Guess VP Pence hasn't ruled out the 25th. But think anyone left in Cabinet is worried they would be fired immediately if they even hint at signing it. Don't know how the 25th would work if someone who signed it is no longer an active member.

There's also the 14th Amendment that says the House and Senate can remove members who act in a detrimental and dangerous way against the Constitution. So anyone who played a role in encouraging the insurrection can possibly be removed. There was a newly elected Qannon Republican who was live Tweeting about the location of the Speaker of the House while they were locked down.

Freedom of speech cannot i:nclude privately owned platforms.

Let's be clear here, if you have a press gallery in your home, you do not need twitter to get your message out. As the 45th president of the USA, Trump is also only the 2nd president to have access to social media, Obama was the first...and Republicans criticized him for using social media from the oval office.

So, to say that removing tRump from a social media app is muzzling him...then how on earth did you ever get by before Twitter, facebook, instagram was around a mere 13 years ago?

Kind of like that rag that was delivered to me last week in the mail. The Epoch Times. I was reading it and thought wow but then i started to doubt the words.
I googled the name and found out some disturbing things about this so called newspaper and their agenda.
Like I said before, the written word is powerful and we all must do research and make up our own minds.
