to India due to that country’s epic COVID number? Really? How long are they going to consider this? Close the door already -we have enough outbreaks in this country. No sense being all pc about it just get it done

If covid test is taken too soon it will give a false negative. It only takes 1 person to infect hundreds. The government needs to start protecting us. People coming across the border by taxies and by foot need to be stopped. People not wearing masks covering their noses and mouths need to be fimed. Why hasn't the government put money towards having our own vaccine company. We will be in this mess again next year when we all need booster shots.

This country has dropped the ball totally when it comes to applying restrictions. They wait until everything is in a mess and then make a move. The politicians are so worried about their precious votes that everything else is secondary. This pandemic is ramping up EVERYWHERE and this way of thinking needs to change. The medical experts must be feeling extreme frustrations that their recommendations are not being followed.

They should not be considering travel measures, they should be implementing travel measures right now. There is nothing to consider at this time. 300,000 new Covid cases yesterday in India and again more than 314,000 new Covid cases today. If you go back and look at previous day’s new cases in India they are just as alarming. Close the border from India into Canada and everywhere before we get into a worse mess than we are already in, so that we have some hopes of maybe getting this pandemic under control sooner rather than later. The government is a joke. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what needs to be done. GET IT DONE NOW!!!

India does manufacture a huge volume of vaccines and vaccinating it's population as quickly as possible. If we stop flights maybe the vaccine will not reach our shores.

Canada has in fact stopped flights from Pakistan and India for 30 days in lieu of rising cases and a new mutation:

The B.1.617 variant has been detected already in Canada with the story mentioning both BC and Alberta.

The best news of all is that there's been no news to date of a variant that doesn't respond to vaccines. Important to note from the article that 1.8% of cases in the country come from travel. Not a reason to take it lightly so much as to remember that what we do within our borders, provinces and communities to contain spread and follow through with a vaccine program is going to make the biggest difference as far as getting our own house in order while other nations get theirs in order. In this case the flight ban is said to "give health officials time to sequence and better understand the variant first detected in India."
