South Park and Mohammad
4/23/2010 at 9:13 AM
I'm kind of surprised this hasn't made the rounds here yet. For those who haven't seen this on the news, South Park's creators finally managed to cross the line of something so offensive that their network won't allow them to air it. Any form or image of the prophet Mohammed.
That's right, the same network that has allowed 14 seasons and 200 episodes of some of the most outrageous and offensive comedy is drawing a line at depicting an image of Mohammed. After deliberately degrading almost every other religious figure and symbol in the most outrageous ways the creators could imagine, the network is now censoring any likeness of Mohammed from appearing on the show.
Whatever you think of South Park's idea of comedy, I find this selective censorship to be disgusting beyond imagination. This is nothing but direct and unapologetic catering to the people who murdered Theo van Gogh for daring to make a film about Mohammed. This is catering to the crowds chanting for death to the Danish comics that dared to portray his likeness in a newspaper.
No, I'm not quite sure why I feel the need to post this here. I suppose I just hope more people knowing will do some good.
