Okay yet again we have "a hiker" OK hikers in the news. This time it is some hikers in the klink in Iran. Will the one (women ) be released this week?? A year ago this group of tourists was taken into Custody. Now I ask - if anyone hikes on the Iran/Iraqi border why would they not expect this?? Recently( twice) it was on the Chinese/North Korea border.  
 
I first ask what were these people thinking? Second is why should I care a hoot if they get caught up in world politics if one of them ends up in the jail of one of these countries?  
 
Now if they were visiting one country or the other and then they get nabbed doing normal things fine . Canadians and the Canadian Government should step up to the plate and help. Its just walking the fence line( borders) between crazy countries is at best extreme tourism but pushing your luck best describes it. Even in Canada border issues rear their ugly head. US Police arresting felons in BC and dragging them back etc.  
 
The argument that they were x feet or metres or even a mile off the border reeks of stupid  
 
Iraq/China have few tourist traps on the borders and there is a reason for that.  
That plus the fact where the actual border is highly flexible when guys have guns.  
 
My point is Foreign affairs have enough on their plate helping Canadians in trouble around the world through no fault of their own. Yet time energy money and goodwill including tit for tat favors are used for these types of clowns
