US Presidential primaries - Are the Domocrats hurting themselves?
3/23/2008 at 11:36 PM
For anyone that's been following the Democratic primaries in recent weeks, what are your thoughts on what the race has been spiralling into?
Currently Barack Obama is sitting on a lead that will be very difficult for Hilary Clinton to overcome. As a result, more and more comments are being said that could play into the Republicans' hands. For example, Hilary was recently quoted as saying that herself and John McCain are two that would be fit to lead the country as opposed to Obama. The fear for Democrats being that that quote would make an ideal TV commercial soundbite if Obama were to win.
Is the fact that the Democrats are still going at it while John McCain is sitting wainting for the winner something that will help or hurt the eventual Democratic winner? Should there be more respectful competition in the name of the greater good? How much longer would things have to go before Hilary should throw in the towel?
Personally even though I've been a pretty vocal Obama supporter, it's understandable that Hilary isn't giving up just yet. She has to have been aspiring to be president for a very long time, and that can't be the kind of dream one gives up without a lot of soul searching. If she doesn't win Pennsylvania by a substantial margin next month, though, I can see there being a lot of pressure from others within the party to step back rather than drag this out into the summer.
