I don't know if 9-11 was life changing for me, but certainly a shocking event to watch live. It is a reminder to be thankful for the relatively peaceful place we live.
World events don't really affect me a whole lot directly as there are so many and they are usually far enough away that there are no tangible ripple effects.
My life changes more with more personal events, such as:
A kid jumping off a dock onto my head when I was in the water changed my love of water into a huge fear of my head being under. I haven't been excited to go to a beach since then.
Getting married...yes, having kids...yes, having had cancer...certainly. Deaths of those I respect is life changing. Being mistreated or rejected and then choosing to proceed with a positive attitude and determination to be a better person is life changing. Watching others go through hard times can be life changing. Seeing how they chose to handle those personal "events" can be either disheartening or inspiring...certainly teaching me things as I continue trudging along in this life.
I consider each person that I encounter...family, friends...to be life changing. Each one has a place in my life story...good, bad or indifferent.
