My grandmother was an award winning glad grower....she worked hard at keeping her stock beautiful though.
Yes, they have to be babied - they need to be pulled each fall, dried properly and some even suggest dusting them with baby powder or other desiccant. They need to be stored properly (though I never could get this right so I obviously am not expert.)
I tried for years to grow them in Brandon and just never could get it right. Sad because growing up my grannie and her contemporaries would travel to all the small towns with their beautiful flowers to all of the flower shows. She had a closet full of ribbons and trophies - it was so much fun to watch her get ready for these shows.
Now stargazer and fancy lillies, they were my thing!!
