I sometimes walk through hummingbird community gardens in the west end I notice a type of onion with very tall and straight and firm green parts (not like the regular green onion I grow) The garden plots have names on them as to whose plot it is, and it seems the onions are in plots with Asian names for the person who grows in that plot...so I am thinking it may be a specialty onion for Asian cooking.  
 
.I have tried waiting around for someone to be working in their garden plot , so I can ask them what type of onion that is, and where to buy it, but I have not been successful in talking to anyone .  
If anyone who grows that type of onion could let me know what type it is, and where to buy it, I would really appreciate it....thanks

It might be a walking onion. They are a perennial onion that grows very tall and stiff. Usually among the first things up in the spring. Very delicious and fully edible.  
 
They get little bulblets at the top and then bend over later in the season, growing a new plant. Hence the "walking" part.

I had a neighbour at hummingbird that grew these onions. He said the ones he grew were actually the green onions he bought at superstore or any grocery store and just replanted and allowed to mature.  
 
I wonder if they are bunching onions? You can buy seed for them but they are best planted in the fall. They become quite tall and lovely like the ones you see at the garden.
