Interested in learning how to landscape your yard?
4/7/2010 at 12:44 PM
Are you looking at redoing an existing flowerbed, not sure about what kind of sidewalk material you want to use, wondering which tree to plant in that empty spot or simply starting from scratch in landscaping your yard? What about learning about where you should put the garden you always wanted to plant?
If you need ideas why not register and come to a landscaping themed day at the Central Community Club (529 - 4th Street in Brandon) next Sat, April 17th?
The Westman Gardeners are hosting a day of speakers from 9am to 3pm. The cost is $20 for the day, and this price includes all speakers and a lunch.
There will be door prizes and garden themed raffles as well as many plants available for purchase that day, including roses, lilies and other perennials.
When landscaping your yard, the first thing to plan is the hardscaping....where the paths, deck/patio, and flowerbeds will go and what kinds of material they will be made of. Matt Berg, is the owner of Livingstone Landscaping here in Brandon and he has an excellent powerpoint presentation for us on this topic.
After your paths, deck/patio and flowerbeds are laid out in your yard you need to start figuring out which trees and shrubs would be suited to your yard and where to place them. Sandra Shiels, a horticulturalist from Regina with a background in landscaping, will be talking about landscaping with trees and shrubs.
After lunch be sure to bring your specific questions about your yard as she is hosting a question and answer session. Sandra is a guest on one of the radio stations in Regina where she answers landscaping questions all the time.
So, now that the hardscaping is planned and you know which trees and shrubs you want, then the last thing is filling in all the empty spaces. We have Marcie Vreeman coming to present a powerpoint on landscaping with perennials. Marcie owns The Blue Garden Greenhouse and Organics near Minnedosa. Marcie will be bringing perennials with her for sale that day also. She also has a background in landscaping.
Brochures are available for pickup at Patmore's, Lindenbergs and at The Green Spot here in Brandon. A copy of the brochure can also be emailed.
So, if you are interested in coming or have questions about the day, contact Brenda at 725-2883 or simply reply to this message.
