HELP.. it looks like fall in our front yard, I have an amazing tree which I believe to be a golden mountain ash.. its huge and beautiful and I love it.. BUT its shedding yellow leaves likes its fall time.. is it dying? what can I do? I tried calling a couple greenhouses and they won't come look at it..is there anyone in Brandon who knows anything about trees? I sure would appreciate some advice... While I'm at it, I need an apple tree, very special to me.. planted 15 years ago, trimmed, I hear that if you do it wrong it will kill it.. .so again, tree experts??? Anyone?? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer... ps.. google gave way to many options to figure out our issue specifically....

We had a beautiful Patmore Ash in our yard and ended up having to cut it down. It did the same thing. It's some type of virus we were told. For two years, it flourished and then all of a sudden, it was like someone had sprayed some kind of chemical on one side. And then the leaves just kept dropping. Sorry for the bad news. We did the greenhouse things too and nobody seemed to know exactly what it was.

Finding help is nearly impossible around here.  
 
We lost a gorgeous weeping birch withing about two week - same scenario you are telling. Our ornamental crab (there are so many of these beautiful old trees around town) - we were losing about a third of it each year to fire blight. We have spoken to Paton and his suggestions were less than helpful too.  
 
It just sucks, you try and get these wonderful trees through to be hardy and sometimes there is nothing anyone can do.

Dr Philip Ronald from portage once told us that he suspects that fire blight originates in sickly spewing mountain ash trees. When we moved into our house 8 years ago we cut down such a tree but it was too late - have lost ornamental crabs,apple tree aND others to fireblight.

I have emailed and sent pictures to Dr. Paton, also left a message for Gontree, although I don't want my tree "gone".. i appreciate all comments but have to say I hope you are wrong and my poor tree is not dying.. it's massive and I would be crushed... wish me luck!
