Last year my trial garden fed the local rabbits well, is there any ideas on how to keep them out of the garden without spending the money to build a fence?

I think a fence is your best bet. I have pet rabbits and we have to have our houseplants up high because they will eat them if they can reach them lol

This is a great idea that I could go with but the city and neighbors may take a somewhat different view of the idea.

The only thing other than a fence (which would have to be dug in under the ground...major pain in the *ss) that might work is laying a netting over the plants. Some sites suggest chicken wire, but I would be afraid of damaging young plants...something a little more flexible and light. I've read about certain homemade repellents, but they'd have to be re-sprayed every so often...if your garden isn't too big this might be ok. No guarantee that they'd work though! Rabbits are a real (cute) pest. Good luck!

some dog fur from a neighbor or groomer and spread it around the edges of your yard, garden. Works like a charm.

If it is fairly small I would get a roll of chicken wire and some little posts and put it around the outside of the garden.
