Does anyone have any "guys" they get bulk fruit from. I'm looking for flats of fruit to put up for the winter. My husband remembers his mom would get a big flat of peaches and pears from a guy somewhere, not a store or stand or anything, but he doesn't know exactly where.

Well, you're not likely to find anyone local growing peaches or pears, as our season isn't long enough.

Maybe ask the Hutterite colonies? They might order stuff like that from somewhere and can give you a lead?

Might be worth a chat with Sobeys South. When I was looking into larger orders of Apples or oranges for juicing I was told at the time that they'd be willing & able to put in custom orders for larger quantities.

Fwiw there are a few pear varieties that can grow locally. Not sure which exact one I tried but actually has a surprisingly nice taste to it. They're so small compared to your traditional grocery store varieties that their use will be more limited but maybe there's an angle there if you can find someone locally with a tree that produces more than they need.

Here is a place that I have heard really good things about:

Prairie Foods, Plum Coulee. They list some sales on Facebook. I don't think they have a separate site. For some reason, my link is not posting.

If you decide to go, let me know(pm). I might be interested in going with you or splitting something with you...especially the cherries, which are around $2/lb. I don''t know if they have peaches yet. That is the next thing that I am after.

If anyone goes to prairie foods I would be interested in fruit i don't drive but would give some money for gas

for the tips, looked up the Prairie Foods, looks like a gem of a place, too bad so far away, will have to think about going
