I'm just wondering about these newer yard ornaments that are made out of resin (???). I've got a dog with a welcome sign that is peeling right down to the white resin. I've got others that are changing colours at the points (nose, fingers, tops of wings and such) and others that I would just like to paint to make more realistic rather than the typical green or grey colour. I expect that I need to scrape as much paint off as possible. After that is this where my alkyd primer will work? Any other suggestions?

That is a very good article. It doesn't say what kind of primer is best but also says you can use any kind of paint. I'll probably use be alkyd primer here.
