Most things seem to have successful, the rodents stealing all my strawberries notwithstanding. Grrr....
First crop greens (lettuces, spinach, etc) did great. Second crop is slow to mature in this hot weather. Trying some new things to encourage them to keep growing, including growing them in mostly shade (seems to be working). We eat A LOT of greens, so that's a big crop for us.
Peas did well, they're mostly done now and I'm letting them go to seed. They're starting to die back already.
Beans are in progress, we've had a few good pickings already with tons still on the plants. The pole beans are just starting to set fruit, so they will be next.
Many small zucchinis, just waiting for them to get bigger. Same with cukes. Pumpkin looks like it will produce a couple of fruit too.
The rhubarb was threatening to take over the garden at one point, but now that it's hotter it seems to have calmed down, LOL.
Raspberries are booming, lots of them on the cane, trying to keep the dog out of them as he loves raspberries too. Fortunately he's too short to reach the majority of them.
Tomatoes are tall and healthy, and just starting to set fruit. It was my first year starting the plants myself indoors, so I'm pleased with how well they're doing. No sign of rot, but our compost always has lots of eggshells in it, which helps with the calcium component. Just was out yesterday pulling suckers off the plants to keep them under control.
Potatoes seem to be doing well, at least above-ground. They look like they're about the bloom. It's my first year growing potatoes, so I'm learning as I go. I have them planted in barrels that I kept adding dirt to as they grew.
Carrots are doing well, actually. They're a dwarf variety so they naturally don't get very big. They were very slow to start, but are now big enough that I'm having trouble keeping the kids out of them (now that they've discovered how tasty they are).
Lots of herbs, etc. Everything is growing good. Almost time to prune the oregano again (and dry it).
Both my apple trees look like they will have bumper crops. I've been culling apples like crazy, or else I'll end up with thousands of itty-bitty apples. But even with my culling, there are TONS of them on there. I should have 150-200 lbs of apples easily as long as the wind stays away (I usually get about 100lbs).
Lots of issues with the wild buckwheat (bindweed) growing. Don't know why there's so much of it this year, but you gotta keep on top of it or it will choke up your plants. I had issues with it getting into the peas, making it nearly impossible to extract with damaging the good plants.
Also slugs this year, especially in my greens (which get watered often). I hate picking those suckers out, but such in the nature of gardening. I also noticed those white moths/butterflies are out now, and I have the holes in my kale to prove it.
It's amazing what you can grow in ~200 sq feet of garden.
