Looking to float down a river!

Some friends and I are planning a camping trip this summer. We had the idea to get a couple of heavy duty dingys and float down a river for a couple days.
We have debated going down the Assiniboine, the Souris, etc but aren't sure.
Does anybody have some advice? Some good and bad stories of where and where not to go??
Any advice or info would be appreciated
