mentality unfortunately is why we can't have many nice things here: primarily chains and a few hipster joints.
Brandon is THE town that wants everything for nothing. A good meal is worth a decent price. " |

Over The Coals is affordable, and all the other stuff that I said, and they are doing very well! They know how to run a business to hit all the best points.
They are very popular and work hard to be one of the best out there.
You are not totally right about just Brandon (THE town) wanting something for nothing, in that it isn't just Brandon. From what I understand from others out of province, it is all of Manitoba that has earned that title. " |

did say we can't have "many" nice things, not we can't have any at all. We do have some nice gems like the Schnitzel house, Blue Hills Bakery, Alberts etc.
However the fact many people here balk at paying a decent price for good food & would rather pay mid-range to cheap prices at mediocre chain restaurants, that can take advantage of large chain discounts from suppliers- means we can only have a few.
Non-chains are a niche market here. It's over saturated quickly as they all need to appeal to the same small percentage of the customer base here.
We can have some great places, but despite being a town full of restaurants the vast majority will continue to be chains that can capitalize on low price points, and mediocre food in large quantities. Quantity over quality is king here I find.
