That's going to be an extra busy corner for a while. We've enjoyed the one in Portage & are looking forward to seeing it come here.  
 
I wonder if they do well, if they might put another one up by the highway eventually. I bet that would do well attracting locals & travellers, as there is nothing like that up there. Of course, I'm just thinking out loud.

Yup, that whole area is gonna really change when you also add Black Wheat Brewing opening up. Gotta be in the running for lowest crime spot in the city too

it nice to see a variation of restaurant chains in Brandon. what restaurants would u like to see come next is the question? Like would you want 5 guys back, or would you like a different type like carls jr/hardees, fatburger or arbys

I would love if 5 guys came back.

Unfortunately the closest we will ever see to Five Guys coming back to Brandon is the Wayback Burger on 18th. Has a burger that is reminiscent of Five Guys/Fat Burger but not as good.

I’m unfortunately not a fan of their texture.

If you're going to discuss what additional restaurants you want to see, & if there would be more, I'd rather see a variety of ethnic food restaurants. Brandon has a few authentic ones, but there are more cultures than that in Brandon.  
 
I'd rather support them than chains.

What would you like to see, there are a few already.  
many Mexican, many Chinese, El Salvadoran, Vietnamese, Porter Rican, Ethiopian, East Indian, Japanese, Canadian, and American. used to be German and Ukrainian. I probably missed a few  
How bout you start something up, what is your specialty ?

Traditional Middle eastern for sure we need a very good one. I know Brandon has had one in the past... but something more consistent with the output of their product.  
 
Also Italian bakery would be very successful.

If we're including places re-opening, I'd like to see Tokyo Zone come back.

in regards to some the of ethnic places i would at more of them if they A) in a more accessible location like a strip mall or stand alone where they could have there own hours, or B) have a bit more on the menu. like dont get me wrong the pupusas is good but what else does that nation have for food to sample?

Via Manitoba franchisee Popeyes Enright Group, plan is to employ about 50 with hiring to begin in August. With renos well underway to convert the former Robins at 10th and Victoria to Popeyes dine in/takeout/drivethru, target continues to be a Fall opening.

I tried to reply quite a while ago, but it kept coming up with an error message.  
 
There are some good ethnic ideas above. Greek like Over the Coals in Portage would be good. An authentic Italian restaurant was suggested above. Years ago, there was a popular Mennonite restaurant by the mall that sadly folded with change of location. They had great homemade style food.  
 
As for me starting a restaurant, I don't live in Brandon & certainly prefer rural living. I'm too busy with other things to run something like that anyway. I've also worked in enough restaurants that I know it is not a passion of mine to run one. I am a good cook & baker, but running that sort of business just doesn't appeal to me. Running any restaurant is about so much more than good or even excellent cooking or baking and even great marketing (which I enjoy). My hat goes off to those who pursue this as a fulfillment of a dream.  
 
You asked my specialty? It is cooking from scratch for my family & friends, even organizing large meals, covering a wide range of ethnic (including my own) & other foods and keeping it within a tight budget. There are no boxed foods and very few canned goods here (pineapple and canned beans are about it).  
 
I like variety personally and get bored easily with the same old thing. I like to play with spices. In my cooking & baking I avoid a lot of the additives so prevalent in most restaurants and store bought ingredients & foods. I cut the sugar by half in most baked goods too. It is amazing what flavor bursts through when you are careful about what goes into a dish. Most people on a store bought/restaurant diet have no idea what they are missing.

I’d like to see Mongos in Brandon. For those not familiar it’s Mongolian stir fry. You take a bowl and choose your ingredients. They encourage you to pile as high as you can. Then choose your sauces and spices. They stir fry it on a big round grill while you watch. It’s plated and you take it to your table. Omg now I want it. It’s so good.
