I have 3 pigs heading to abattoir soon and am looking for a decent price to charge people that are getting them. Searched ebrandon but nothing recent Will charge by hanging weight as only way I have to weigh them. Organic, pasture raised

No one has bought a pig lately ? Just wondering what you had to pay

I noticed an ad for butcher pigs, the person who placed the add was looking for $1.00 a lb live weight of weaklings, looking at a dressing percentage of around 75% would be around $1.35, that would not include anything but the carcass.  
Now given how the hog has been raised, I would expect a premium above that price.  
If I’m way off on anything I don’t mind people correcting me.

That should of read, $1.00 per lb live weight or weanlings

I seen that to but thinking that’s quite cheap. $100 avg to buy weanings. I try to butcher about 240lbs. So $140 to get them grown and fattened isn’t enough. I’m thinking at least $350 a pig. I don’t want to be unfair either

We raised a few pigs 4-5 years ago. We charged $400 per pig live and delivered it to the butcher. Then the customer paid the butcher for cutting and wrapping. I calculated our expenses and I really only made $75 off each pig profit. So wasn’t worth the work for the 6 months we had them.  
 
We have bought from others for anywhere from $250 -$350 a live pig delivered to the butcher then paid the butcher costs.

When I figured the numbers out, first thought was that money wouldn’t come anywhere near the cost of feed, sort of having the same problem with fat cattle.  
Just wondering if that dollar a pound was just to get them gone.

I was thinking $400 a pig and like someone said not making much. So hanging price I’m thinking 2.50/lb which will be close to the live price and customer pays abattoir cost

$350 to 400 is probably where it should be at. Unfortunately it generally isn’t. Used to raise a couple for ourselves and a couple for sale and there isn’t much money to be made.  
Pork in the store is cheap.
