where can one buy fresh pickerel?

Good luck around here. I stock up at the Gimli Fish Market when I head towards Winnipeg now and then, But hey if your good at fishing lots of lakes nearby have pickerel in them. I suck at fishing so I have to buy mine. Expensive fish.

There is a add selling fresh pickerel on Brandon once in awhile. Was on here about a week ago again

thanks for the replies, I love fishing just haven't had time in the last couple of years. I know superstore used to sell fresh pickerel. Doesn't look like it any more. I will watch the ads. Have a great weekend

Safeway has pickerel sometimes. When they do it usually costs more than salmon though.

At the Green Spot yesterday and they have pickerel.  
 
*Just re-read the op. The pickerel there is frozen, not fresh, I believe.

Cut Rite Meats took over the Fish Hut: they are out of town a bit to the NE. They have all sorts of seafood, fish, etc.

They have Manitoba pickerel fillets and packs of pickerel cheeks as well.

I'm afraid you won't find fresh pickeral (maybe in the grocery store, but how old is it in their show case?) The Fish Hut (Call or Text 204-725-4723) they operate out of their home (out of town), they will deliver. It is frozen, not sure from where). However there is someone at the Town Centre market (the FIRST Friday of the month) I will give you a phone # below (once I find it). They have frozen pickeral fillets (they fish themselves), they have pickeral cheeks (the cadillac of the fish, in my opinion) and they also sell ground white fish (to make fish cakes. I made fish chowder from it). I don't know why they don't sell white fish fillets though. I would get in touch with them before going to the market, the next time is on Fri Oct 1st (to be sure they will be there) (for the most part, they are there the first Friday of the month). In Winnipeg.. Seafood city! lots of fresh seafood!

White fish are incredibly difficult to debone. My FIL sometimes catches them and brings me fillets, but always warns me there's still bones. He tells me to grind it, which I do. The bones are small and will break down well in the grinder. They make excellent fish cakes.

Very good place for seafood and good prices. If your in Winnipeg definetly recommend.
