Trick to getting travel mugs clean

Does anyone have any tricks to get travel mugs clean?! I have many of them, some stainless steel, some plastic. And I can never get them clean! Especially the lids, with the sliding part where you drink out of. And they always have a funny smell, even though I rinse them out when I'm done everyday.
Help please!
