5 Guys Relocating or Closing?

Heard a rumor that 5 Guys in the mall was closing. Wondering if there is anything to this or if it is just a rumour?

there were the best bugar in town as fare as i seen were not cheap with there food for sure filled me up to the max every time and so good

There were some questions that came up a few months ago when the re-development map for the mall didn't show 5 Guys at their current location:

When I spoke with mall management at that time I was told that 5 Guys would be re-locating elsewhere within the mall. I'd start by assuming thats still the case, I'll see if there's an update.

My son is one of the workers losing their job. That spot is needed to be a new entrance to the mall.

I just called the phone number for the restaurant and was told that they are closing on July 30 with no plans to re-open. Was very sorry to hear, we've enjoyed stopping in. Hoping the best for everyone that works there

Failed business after failed business in that spot since the mall opened simply because there's no entrance to it from the mall and here it is, the whole space closing down to become an entrance to the mall. If that doesn't tell the story of Brandon's development capabilities then I don't know what does. Speaking to Five Guys, the only burger I've ever had from there was two times and both were an soggy pile of burger wrapped in tinfoil, just disgusting all around.

That's awful that they are closing just to put an entrance to the mall. Hope all the employees find new jobs quickly. I've never had a bad food experience there, ever. They have the best burgers and fries in Brandon, in my opinion. I like that you pick your toppings to add on to the burger too, as opposed to having a burger loaded with stuff and you having to remove items (especially if your not sure what comes on the burger in the first place to remove, most don't post all items on menu board, but assume everybody wants them). I'd rather start with the burger and pick what I want on it. Wish more places did this.
We are going to miss 5 guys for sure!

I'm not surprised at all that they are closing, for whichever purpose. They haven't been meeting their sales in years. I thought they would have been closed a few years ago.

when 5 guys first opened and Ben was running it, it was excellent. but I swear they did something with the beef cause the last 2 times been there it was dry, dry dry.

with a harveys opening up, (hopefully soon) i dont think they would be able to compete anyway, harveys, if it is done right will knock the socks off the other fast food burger joints..... they are so good. was our favorite in calgary. can't wait.

Technically, I think the real name is "Five Guys Burgers and Fries" vs. 5 Guys.

I have heard sales were just fine, but a leasing issue with the mall.

My family will sincerely miss that restaurant!
We really like to go there occasionally and just share the fries along with a burger or hotdog each.

My kids really enjoy their unique hot dogs!

I can see however, that they would be soon facing serious competition from Harvey's (also custom burgers).

I loved 5 Guys! Best of luck to everyone who worked there and hope they can find new employment fast! I always loved their atmosphere along with the delicious fries every time and burgers!

I have been there 3 times since it opened. The burger was pretty greasy and the bag of fries that comes with it is a waste unless you have someone to share with. Mine just got tossed out.

The mall has confirmed the July 30 date for closure.
We loved how generous they were with the fries. You could order a small and have enough for everyone... and kiddo loved the peanuts! Unfortunately for us after the initial excitement wore off we found the burgers priced high enough that we'd trend toward a regular restaurant with our bigger spends. For a trip down memory lane, a look back at the thread when they were opening what was Canada's first location. 7 years from lined out the door euphoria to closure

Why is Five Guys closing their doors grrrrrrr? We enjoy eating their hamburgers & fries....they are so tasty....I don't understand it....they always seem to be busy....I would rather eat their food than the Swiss Chalet/Harvey's that they are opening. I had a Harvey's hamburger at the Wpg. Airport and I was not impressed....it was horrible!

Just an assumption but I'd say that if in fact they arent re-opening anywhere in Brandon, the place probably wasnt doing as well as they'd need it to to justify being here. Also can't overlook how much the local restaurant industry could change almost overnight when these four new brands are dropped into the market. Thats a lot of tables and meals that are likely coming at someone else's expense unless the thought is that more restaurants equals people increasing how many times they eat out?

In my experience airport food isn't always the best indication of what a franchise can do, hopefully Harveys is able to help fill the void!

if the franchisee really wanted to stay in Brandon, they can relocate to another location in Brandon. Pretty sure the franchisee knew awhile ago the their lease wasn't going to be renewed.

It was awesome having the first 5 Guys Burgers & Fries in Canada, our family really enjoyed it. Brandon's was very good, had been to one in Fort Lauderdale and thought Brandon's was better. Sad to see it closing

Anyways a hype about new fast food joints opening up. Opening day and week is busy and then everything dies down. Another restaurants include taco time, Thai express, even qdoba. I remember qdoba being busy for months. Now not that busy. I'm surprised wok box is still open.

I'm depressed that Five Guys is closing. Were they expensive? Yes, but so is just about every other burger joint now days. They were the only fast food chain that made their burgers AND fries straight from scratch, rather than fresh beef and frozen fries or frozen beef and fresh fries. Their cajun fries were a deal for whatever size you ordered, you always got a whole day's worth of fries in that bag. The burger had the perfect crispiness to the bacon and the beef just melts in your mouth.

Am I surprised it failed in Brandon? No, most people would rather get a 2 for $5 whopper deal instead.

Since it's in Winnipeg and Minot now days, I miss back when I could brag "ha, you have to visit Brandon if you want to go to a Five Guys!"

I wish the Brandon location got milkshakes, poutines and freestyle coke machines like many of the locations out east did, but ah well.. hopefully a new location will come in.

I was hoping for years for a Harvey's to come in, but in reality - after eating it enough at the airport, it's not that good. Their slush-shake drinks are good, their chicken strips are comparable to Wendy's, but their burgers just don't taste right, too rubbery.

I'm sorry but the Harvey's at the airport sucks BIG time. I think that is one of the worst Harvey's location that I have eaten at. This is also comparing to Toronto Harvey's.

I would not say that every business in that spot "failed".

Five guys didn't fail, in a sense they were kicked out to make a new entrance. There was a man's clothing store in there at one time, Moores I believe, They moved. So no, I wouldn't say "failed after failed" business.

If anyone cares... Their biggest customer was "Skip the dishes". I know someone from there and for months the staff knew that it was going to close only because of the Malls lease issues, not for a lack of business. We can only hope that with some luck, a different location could be considered. Perhaps a pre existing establishment that's ran it's course? Maybe the Husky gas station want's the name on the building? That's a good site for a burger joint. Skip the dishes and still serve Brandon and there's a good flow of traffic at that corner for 'walk ins' and 'to goes'. Just saying... The name and their product was good, they simply need an opportunity for a better location.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

FWIW I haven't been able to confirm authenticity of the source on this one because of what sounds like a holiday, but I've received a message on behalf of Five Guys that cites only mall renovations as the reason for closure and indicates that "sales have been on a steady incline, and better then ever before." There just is no longer a space at the mall that suits their needs. I'm hoping to connect with them further in the coming days to verify and understand if they still intend to search for a location elsewhere in Brandon in the future, or if it is in fact Mall or bust.
