acceptable clothing for a wedding.

so my best friend is getting married and although i am not standing up with them (they are only have one person each stand up) i am saying a speech and will be in a lot of the pictures. it is a fall wedding and i am wondering if it is acceptable to wear a floor length dress. my friend said she doesnt care what i wear but i never see anyone wear a full length dress to weddings any more.
